Watco Tung Oil Finish is a fast drying ready to use formula that will not darken over time and can be reapplied as needed to bring back the luster and refresh the character of interior wood furniture, trim, molding and more.

How to Apply Watco Tung Oil

Surface Preparation

Remove any existing finishes with sandpaper or stripper. Prepare bare wood for oil treatment by sanding in the direction of the grain. Begin with 120 grit sandpaper and progress though 150, 180 and 220 grits. Before applying Watco Tung Oil Finish, remove all sanding dust and dirt with a vacuum, tack cloth, or rag dampened with mineral spirits. To remove grease, oils or adhesive use a rag dampened with mineral spirits. Ensure wood is dry and free from subsurface moisture before applying Tung Oil Finish.

Protect surrounding areas with a solvent resistant drop cloth covered in newspaper around the work area in case of drips or spills. Protect eyes and skin, wear safety goggles and chemical resistant gloves

Application

Use adequate ventilation at all times. Apply only when the air and surface temperatures are above 50°F (10°C) and below 95°F (35°C). Use full strength. Test Watco Tung Oil Finish in an inconspicuous area prior to use

Shake container thoroughly and apply a test area to check color on a hidden section of wood. NOTE: To ensure uniform color and/or appearance, complete the entire project with the same stain color as shown on the label. Flood the surface with a brush or cloth, applying additional finish to areas that absorb all of the liquid. Allow to penetrate for 15 minutes. Wipe surface thoroughly with a clean lint free cloth to remove excess oil from the surface. After 24 hours of dry time, apply a second coat and allow the Tung Oil Finish to penetrate the surface for 5-10 minutes before buffing with a clean, lint free cloth.

Two light coats are recommended for best appearance. Gloss level will increase with additional coats. Allow wood to completely dry (minimum 24 hours) before using.
