How to Apply Varathane One Step Stain & Polyurethane Spray?
Spraying Conditions
Use outdoors or in a well-ventilated area such as an open garage. Avoid spraying in very windy, dusty conditions. Cover surrounding area to protect from spray mist.
Surface Preparation
Proper surface preparation is important. All surfaces must be clean and dry, and free of any dirt, oil, grease, wax, polish, and any other contaminants. Remove any existing finishes with sandpaper or stripper. Prepare bare wood for staining by sanding in the direction of the grain. Begin with #150 grit sandpaper and progress through #180, #220 and #320 grits. Before using product, remove all sanding dust and dirt with a vacuum and grease or glue with a clean rag dampened with mineral spirits.
Spraying/Application
Shake can vigorously for one minute after mixing ball begins to rattle. If mixing ball fails to rattle DO NOT STRIKE CAN. Contact Rust-Oleum. Shake often during use. Apply when temperature is between 50-90°F (10-32°C) and humidity is below 65% to ensure proper drying. Hold can upright 8-12" from surface and spray in a steady back-and-forth motion, slightly overlapping each stroke. Spray multiple thin coats until desired color is achieved. Keep the can the same distance from the surface. Keep the can in motion while spraying. If overspray occurs, use a small bristle brush to remove or even out excess stain. Surface can be recoated within 2 hours or after 48 hours. If recoating after 48 hours, repeat the surface preparation. A second coat can be applied after 4 hours. Lightly sand between coats, with #320 grit sandpaper. REMOVE ALL SANDING DUST BEFORE APPLYING ADDITIONAL COATS.
