How to Apply Automotive Metallic Spray Paint?
Appropriate Conditions to Spray
Use outdoors or in a well-ventilated area such as an open garage.Use when temperature is between 50˚F and 90˚F (10˚-32˚C) and humidity is below 85% to ensure proper drying. Do not apply to surfaces that, when heated, exceed 200˚F (93˚C) or galvanized metal. Avoid spraying in very windy, dusty conditions. Cover surrounding area to protect from spray mist.
Use of a Rust-Oleum Primer provides added corrosion protection on metal and promotes adhesion and hiding. A primer is especially recommended for metal and plastic surfaces. Rust-Oleum Automotive Sandable Primer Spray is recommended for the same.
Remove loose paint and rust with a wire brush or sandpaper. Lightly sand glossy surfaces. Clean with soap and water, rinse and let dry. WARNING! Shake can vigorously for one minute after mixing ball begins to rattle. Shake often during use. Hold can 10-16" from surface and spray in a steady back-and-forth motion, slightly overlapping each stroke. Keep the can the same distance from the surface. Keep the can in motion while spraying. For best appearance, apply two light coats a few minutes apart.
